Comcast takes over more Adelphia customers

This morning, Comcast began transitioning former Adelphia customers in central Miami to its services.

The switch in Liberty City and Allapattah is for both cable TV and high-speed internet connections.

Teams of technicians are to be combing the area, changing out old Scientific Atlanta cable boxes and installing newer Motorola equipment to be compatible with a new Comcast distribution center.

"This cutover is a necessary step for residents in central Miami to obtain a higher level of service," said Tom Autry, Comcast area vice president for Miami-Dade County. "The hub facility used to service the area had reached the peak of its capacity. This transition allow us to offer customers higher Internet speeds and provide faster access to advanced services like Comcast Digital Voice.

Comcast said more than 1,200 customers will be involved in the changes. After the switch is complete, Comcast said it plans to stop using the old Adelphia distribution facility.

"I feel certain our new Central Miami customers will be pleased with the higher level of service they will be receiving," Autry said.

Comcast's South Florida Region, which employs more than 1,800 people, encompasses Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. Its regional offices are in Miramar.
